The research and development (R&D) projects, developments and results of SZTAKI were presented to the delegation by the Institute's researchers. The American guests were mainly interested in aeronautical and automation solutions, therefore the programme was set accordingly.
In the frame of the 4th ZalaZONE Innovation Day that was held on 30 September 2022 (4ZZID), ARNL researchers and developers held several live vehicle demonstrations for interested visitors and for the representatives of the Ministry of Technology and Industry (TIM) at the ZalaZONE automotive test track.
Péter Gáspár, Head of the Systems and Control Research Laboratory of SZTAKI, and also the Technical Director of the National Laboratory of Autonomous Systems (ARNL), held his inaugural lecture as an elected Full Member of the HAS on 19 October 2022.
Elisabeth Angyalka Ilie-Zudor, Director's Advisor at SZTAKI and senior researcher of the Research Laboratory on Engineering & Management Intelligence, will participate as an evaluation expert at the event on 11 November.
​​​​​​​SZTAKI researchers presented R&D projects and results to the delegation. During the presentations and demonstrations, the delegation could learn about SZTAKI’s developments in the fields of aviation, automation, artificial intelligence and machine vision and perception.
The software developed in cooperation between Semmelweis University (SE), Ulyssys Ltd. and SZTAKI, using artificial intelligence to automatically analyse CT images and aids the early detection of cancer, could be a milestone in lung cancer diagnostics, said Béla Merkely, Rector of SE, at the closing event of the project in Budapest on Thursday.
The Research Cloud, a joint project of SZTAKI and the Wigner Research Centre for Physics, is helping the most advanced space telescope to spy on the cosmos: the James Webb spectral database is also computed on the ELKH Cloud.
The Artificial Intelligence National Laboratory and the National Laboratory for Autonomous Systems, both coordinated by SZTAKI, got introduced at the IVSZ MENTA 2022 conference, letting the audience know more about their projects and functions.
Dr. Myung-Joon KIM, President of the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) of South Korea, and his three high-ranking colleagues within ETRI visited Hungary on a scientific and research networking tour. The program of the tour was organised by the Ministry of Culture and Innovation.
In the frame of the ”Week of Safety” event-series the researchers of the Széchenyi István University (Győr, Hungary) and of the Institute for Computer Science and Control (SZTAKI, Budapest, Hungary) were given the opportunity to demonstrate to the public the results of their joint development efforts concerning a forerunner drone. The live demo was carried out with the active participation of the Hungarian National Ambulance Service (HNAS); more specifically, one of their ambulance cars was accompanied in the air and was safeguarded from above by the aforementioned drone.
In its Innovation and Demonstration Space that had been inaugurated this summer, SZTAKI received the representatives of the Office of Naval Research (ONR).
In May 2022 we have flown, crashed, repaired and flown again the T-FLEX demonstrator, within the FLiPASED H2020 project. The teams from SZTAKI (Institute for Computer Science and Control) and German Aerospace Center (DLR) also helped immensely with providing the test airfield, software preparation debugging and supporting the test team.
The joint exhibition of the Fraunhofer Society and SZTAKI was opened at the Stuttgart Science Festival, with speeches by András Izsák, Consul General of Stuttgart, Thomas Bauernhansl, Director of Fraunhofer IPA, and László Monostori, Director of SZTAKI. The opening ceremony was also attended by Engelbert Westkämper, former Director of Fraunhofer IPA.
In the Innovation and Demo Space (IDS), some of SZTAKI’s most recent research and development results were presented and demonstrated. SZTAKI is part of the Eötvös Loránd Research Network (ELKH).
The event was attended by Dr. Károly Balázs Solymár, Deputy State Secretary for Digitalisation at the Ministry of Innovation and Technology, Marco-Alexander Breit, Head of the Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies Task Force at the German Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Change, and several members of the Gaia-X board.
The participants of the exhibition had the opportunity to learn about the activities and professional achievements of SZTAKI and to ask for a portrait served by the institute's drawing robot, Piktor-o-bot.

In the FIFA World Cup, the 32 national teams are allocated to eight groups of four, where the top two teams qualify for the Round of 16. Therefore, it is important to balance the difficulty levels of the groups: if a group contains three strong teams, at least one of them will be eliminated in the group stage. The draw system used until 2014 has been subject to considerable criticism over the years, hence FIFA adopted one recommendation of a French mathematician, Julien Guyon, for the 2018 World Cup draw.

The Innovation Cluster for Digital Society (Biztonságos Digitális Társadalom Innovációs Klaszter – BDTIK) held its inaugural meeting on July 27, 2021, with the participation of SZTAKI. At the same time, it launched innovative projects aimed at the development of e-government and e-public services, the performance of law enforcement tasks, and the application of artificial intelligence for administrative purposes, which could not yet meet the needs of citizens. The cluster brings together industry-leading public IT service providers, higher education and academic institutions to bring together their research and development activities to further support the digital society through their innovations. The cluster operates within the framework of the National Laboratory for Infocommunications and Information Technology.
