The software developed in cooperation between Semmelweis University (SE), Ulyssys Ltd. and SZTAKI, using artificial intelligence to automatically analyse CT images and aids the early detection of cancer, could be a milestone in lung cancer diagnostics, said Béla Merkely, Rector of SE, at the closing event of the project in Budapest on Thursday.
In the Innovation and Demo Space (IDS), some of SZTAKI’s most recent research and development results were presented and demonstrated. SZTAKI is part of the Eötvös Loránd Research Network (ELKH).
The event was attended by Dr. Károly Balázs Solymár, Deputy State Secretary for Digitalisation at the Ministry of Innovation and Technology, Marco-Alexander Breit, Head of the Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies Task Force at the German Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Change, and several members of the Gaia-X board.
The goals set in the cooperation of the parties will help researchers, domestic medical technology developers, manufacturers, and the efforts of the government in the field of health care, thus creating interests for those involved in the health industry.
One of the most important tasks of governing bodies in sports is to distribute the revenue generated by all participants in a fair way. László Csató, a research fellow of the Labora-tory on Engineering and Management Intelligence, Research Group of Operations Re-search and Decision Systems – together with his PhD student, Dóra Gréta Petróczy (Cor-vinus University of Budapest) – has written a paper on this topic entitled “Revenue allo-cation in Formula One: a pairwise comparison approach”, which has recently appeared in International Journal of General Systems.
The paper is published by ELKH SZTAKI director László Monostori and head of Research Laboratory on Engineering & Management Intelligence, József Váncza.
The HydroCobotics concern (Hyd-Cob for short) would develop a safe application for vertical hydroponic systems with the involvement of industrial robots.
Csató László, a research fellow of the Laboratory on Engineering and Management Intelligence, Research Group of Operations Research and Decision Systems has recently written a book on this topic, which is part of the Palgrave Pivots in Sports Economics series under the title “Tournament Design (How Operations Research Can Improve Sport Rules)”.
HunCERT held a three-day long communications training that began on the 19th of October. After simulating attacks against service providers’ web servers, emergence of phishing pages aiming the pandemic situation had also been simulated. Experts measured the rapidness of reaction times during attack.
On the 19th of November 2019, an aircraft with aeroelastically tailored wings flew in real environment for the first time in the world. The wings carbon fibre composite orientation is changing by the wind’s direction. The flight of the craft that was developed under the SZTAKI-lead international project FLEXOP was to test ease passive damping of the load on the wings. SZTAKI has also responsible for building and functioning the board aviation (electric flight) system, including sensors and batteries inside the wings, and the autopilot system’s software and hardware components. With these, the craft is viable for repeatable experiments to collect data.
Megalakult a Mesterséges Intelligencia Koalíció (MI Koalíció) Balatonfüreden.
Researchers of SZATKI participate in the Horizon 2020 AIDPATH project that aims to facilitate the so-called CAR-T therapies tailored to individual patients by using the cutting-edge achievements in artificial intelligence as well as production planning and scheduling techniques. The results are expected to be utilized in hematology, oncology, and handling various contagious and immune diseases.
With the Institute for Computer Science and Control (SZTAKI), Hungary, as artificial intelligence developer partner, the Hexa-X flagship project received 12MEUR funding from the European Commission for research in beyond 5G/6G radio technology connecting human, physical, and digital worlds.
Led by SZTAKI, a 21-member EU project will be launched to make European production systems and supply chains more flexible. The goal is to help the shift from general production to medical devices if a pandemic or a further wave of COVID-19 requires so.
SZTAKI is one of the key pioneers of the Industry 4.0 trend on global and on Hungarian levels as well: the institute is proud on its various scientific and development results. These results were extended recently: the Intelligent Processes Research Group led by Dr. Zsolt János Viharos, of the Research Laboratory on Engineering and Management Intelligence of SZTAKI developed a novel, more efficient algorithm that was included into the production machines of AQ Anton and FANUC as well.
Our lives are becoming increasingly digital. Year by year, we conduct more and more our activities online. Nowadays, we can buy and sell goods online. We consume advertisements and movies online. We work, make friends and maintain our relationships with our loved ones online. Really soon, our money will also become digital. However, digitizing money comes with a lot of difficulties.
Researchers at the János Szentágothai Research Center of the University of Pécs have been investigating the genetic changes of the pathogenic SARS-COV-2 virus since the beginning of the COVID-19 epidemic. With the analysis of the data and the IT support of SZTAKI, the evolution of the virus could be deciphered and it could be shown how it spread in Hungary.

The SZTAKI (Institute for Computer Sciences and Control) and the Wigner Research Centre for Physics (Wigner FK) offer thousands of processors and terabytes of the computing power of their own cloud computing capacity integrated with MTA Cloud (the Hungarian Research Cloud) due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The researchers of SZTAKI - Ferenc Béres and András Benczúr, and ELTE doctoral student István Seres - examined Lightning Network, the most popular payment channel network designed to solve Bitcoin problems - slowness and scalability. Lightning Network is not anonymous enough and may not work at all.
Dr. László Palkovics, Minister for Innovation and Technology has announced at the Infotér (Info Space) Conference that in 2020 the Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence will be established under the leadership of SZTAKI. The Centre will be formed by the Hungarian AI Coalition created in the frame of the Digital Welfare Programme (DJP). SZTAKI will be its leader, the members come from the research institutes and institutions of higher education.
