First day of INCOM 2021 has successfully concluded

The first day of 2021’s virtual INCOM event begun with an opening ceremony, held by Prof. László Monostori, director of SZTAKI. Monostori talked about the Hungarian contributions to IFAC in the past, including the presidency of Prof. Tibor Vámos, founder of SZTAKI, who recently passed away in the age of 94. Monostori quoted Vámos’s obituary and held one minute of silence of his respect. Monostori also talked about the percentage of accepted papers: approximately 300 papers were sent yet only around 200 got to be presented during the three days of INCOM. The opening ceremony had more than a hundred live viewers.

During Monday’s keynote, Prof. François B. Vernadat talked about the integration and interoperability in automation and smart systems. “Systems integration and interoperability, although different but complementary, have a lot in common and sometimes overlap either in terms of concepts, principles or technologies. Integration is about ‘joining entities together to make one, i.e. a seamless whole’, while interoperability is about ‘using data/information/knowledge or functionality from others with minimum efforts’. Both contribute to fluidify information/decision/control flows and improve interoperations within or across systems. Largely based on Information & Communications Technologies (ICTs) as well as systems sciences and organisation sciences, both have significantly contributed to major advances on automated systems over the last 40 years” – writes the Professor in the official abstract.

The first day of INCOM, the presenters held 16 sessions in 5 different virtual rooms to talk about manufacturing, AI, production and future technologies. Tomorrow, Prof. Jürgen Beyerer is going to hold a keynote speech.
