Global Conference Network

The fact that the small EU nations and nationalities have to rely on each other both from political and economic aspects, the will that we wish to preserve the linguistic diversity of Europe will demand from the coming generations an ever faster and more accurate communication. Since - in spite of expectations neither a natural nor an artificial global language appeared yet, and even if a global language would appear it would damage national identities, there is demand towards developing an inter-personal communication technology that overcomes the gap that is caused by the multi-lingual environment. This technology would represent a break-through in this field.

System GCN (Global Conference Network) of the project tries to establish audio and video connection between the parties independently of their linguistic skills and location. System GCN is based on the Internet, the ISDN system, and an audio-video ring that is based on standard IEEE 1394. Participants of different mother tongues - through interpreters using the services and equipment of the interactive GCN system - are able to conduct informal discussions, business negotiations, long distance multi-lingual conferences, training events, operation related consulting and urgent medical consultations independently of their spoken languages without having to spend money, energy and time on tiring travel and special interpretation service arrangements.
